Existing government laws have made all the industries compulsorily set up On Site
Waste Treatment Plants. However invariably they were found to be inadequate to treat the water to the required level and this area remains unattended even years after the introduction of the laws. In the meanwhile, the effluent has increased in quantity due to the expansions and diversification that have come into effect. The main reason for this step-motherly treatment is due to the need of high investments which do not give adequate returns on the investment.
AUM stresses on an environmentally friendly approach in all Process Industries. Our endeavours are towards achieving a Process for all Industries, whereby a Zero Discharge System coupled with a Water Recycling Arrangement not only eliminates the Effluent Discharge but also conserves water, a natural source which is gradually depleting due to excessive wastage and contamination.
Different Industries discharge effluent of varying quality and quantity, some being more harmful and quantitative than the others. Depending on the quality and quantity of the effluent, we can design a suitable system. The Evaporation process eliminates wastewater disposal with ZERO discharge to the drain, thus curbing pollution. The same effluent which is now Pure stream with the contaminants left behind (after Evaporation), is then condensed and used as Make-Up Distilled water in the Main Process, thus conserving water. Thus the Evaporation System serves the multi purpose of curbing pollution, conserving water and substantially reducing costs which would otherwise have been incurred.
Most industries have Effluent Treatment Plants, but these do not function as desired due to operational malfunctions which occur during Chemical Dosing, pH correction, settling, skimming, etc. This occurs because of the larger than expected, quantity of effluent to be handled. In order to utilize the existing Effluent Plant efficiently, to start with, AUM suggests the installation of an Evaporation Plant to reduce the Effluent water discharge to less than 20% of it's original volume, thus making the volume manageable for operational accuracy.
The Evaporation Process does not appear economical due to the high energy requirement for evaporating such large quantities of water and thus is held the conception that this process adds up to high recurring expenditure. Since AUM Specializes in Process and Thermal Designs, the Company has the capacity to analyze the main Processing Unit i.e. perform an Energy Audit and after monitoring and documenting the same, AUM can design a system whereby the heat required by the Evaporation System is acquired by utilizing the waste heat energy produced in the Plant during the Process, which is otherwise wasted in the Plant. AUM incorporates modem technology with thermo-vapour compression and multiple effects, most suitable for this process.
For large capacity units where the quantity of water to be evaporated is in very large volumes, AUM incorporates Mechanical Vapour Compression alongwith the system for evaporation. At times, if the waste heat available in the Process Plants are negligible and at the same time Effluent Water Discharge to be handled is of a very large volume, AUM incorporates a combination of R.0 Plants and Evaporation Plants with Continuous Salt Crystallization and Decanting System to perform the Zero Discharge Effluent Control.
There are some Chemical Plants which let out effluent water which contain not only dissolved solids but also certain solvents. AUM has the know-how wherein the process is equipped with a Primary Solvent Recovery System, prior to the total evaporation of the water. The recovery of the solvent not only recovers the expensive solvents which can be reused, but also prevents accidents which could be caused due to fire hazards.
Principal features of an Evaporator and other requisite equipment need to be chosen in accordance with the Product and the Process Parameters. The System is designed for an automatic steady state of operation and it requires little operator attention or chemical handling.
Normally in the case of large quantity of of Effluents, the treatment with chemicals becomes very difficult. This problem however could be solved in two ways:
- The quantity of the Effluents to be reduced to 5% and then treat this 5% with chemicals(OR)
- Treat the entire quantity through Evaporative system.
Depending on the different processing plant and the effulents, AUM can suggest an economical Evaporative System by utilising Waste Steam from the plant.
The steam generated in the Effluents Evaporative System can be utilized for a part of steam energy required for processing.
Advantages:
- Total control of the Effluents Treatment meeting the standards in the Discharge.
- As much quantity of Distilled water for Boiler quantity of water used by the Boiler, the performance would be very good due to absence of scale information.
- Again since the Total Dissolved Solids content is commercial Zero Blow Down is minimised to less than 2% as against 30-35% normally required thereby saving energy cost.
Wherever it involves drastic prelimnary treatment prior to our Evaporative System, we have a tie-up arrangement with a reputed Canadian Company who have the expertise to handle the prelimnary treatment system.
